The Polish band Behemoth was founded in 1991 by vocalist/guitarist Adam "Nergal" Darski. After recording several demos and an EP, their debut CD Sventevith (Storming Near the Baltic) was released in 1995. Behemoth's early albums were black metal, but they have evolved into a death metal band with black metal influences. They are controversial in their home country due to their beliefs.
